53 Gordon - Kitchen/Living Room/Family Room Remodel

Remodel project from winter of 2014-2015-
My husband is responsible for all the hard work!

Here we go...

The Living Room as you entered the house when we bought it.

The Living Room Now

View of Living Room from the stairs going upstairs: Notice the wall on the left - that was the wall dividing the living room from the kitchen

Same view, be slightly further to the left and you can see the old entrance way into the kitchen and the funny island that was there. There was about a foot between the edge of the island and the sliding door.

Not shown in all the pictures - the fan over the island.

The room now with the wall gone.

This shot shows how the living room, kitchen and dining room once were and you can barely see the edge of the half wall with dowels on the right - the shot is taken from the front door. The half wall with dowels separated the entrance from the living room.

The front door - you can see the half wall and dowels barely here on the left side of picture.
At the bottom right,  you see a touch of dark brown - that is the stairs leading to the hallway and bedrooms upstairs.

And now...the half wall is gone.

You can see the front door here and the stairs leading to the hallway and bedrooms.
To the right of those stairs are a set of stairs going down to family room.

Dining room before...
Friends fought over who could have these drapes and light fixture.
Note the nice wallpaper border...it was in all the rooms.

The dining room now.
Trim was added to the window where there was none before.

Table and chairs were purchased on Craig's List and redone. There are two leaves for the table and more chairs.

Kitchen before -
This is the view as you entered the kitchen.
The sliding patio door is on the left -

The kitchen now...

New sliding glass door.
Door leads out to a deck and the grass yard.

Buffet came from a consignment store, and window was a gift from a friend.
Using two of the dining room chairs in the living room.

This side of the island are two sink cupboards I found at a warehouse for $50. The other side of the island is the old island. We put them together with a fair bit of space left in between and then put a siding over the sides. We used corbels to allow for an overhang - though they are mostly decorative. The marble slab is my favorite thing of all.  The island is nearly six feet square.

Couch purchased on Craigslist, as was the coffee table.

Added molding to this window too and replaced the baseboard  - went with something much wider.
We found a new front door on Craigslist but haven't installed it yet. It has windows!

Family room  before - you can see the dining area and kitchen.
Sliding door on left goes out to flagstone patio.

And now...

Family room before.
How did I not get a photo of the TWO fans in this room?
The ceiling isn't that high and they were dangerous!

The family room now -
This picture doesn't do it justice - the photo is over exposed, but gives you the idea.

TV console from Craigslist - the rest of the furniture in this room we had.

This photo is too dark, but the light coming in from the patio prevented a good photo.
The photo is taken from the door coming in from the garage.
The wood floors are bamboo - same as the floors in the living room level.

More to come as we move to the laundry room and bathrooms...
I imagine we will put those on hold until next winter.
