Garden likes it hot!

I'm happy to report that the fires are out! What a nightmare.
It's been the hottest summer ever with so little moisture...and yet, the garden is spectacular! I think the plants are loving the hot summer weather. It's been a month since my last post, so here's what the garden is looking like on July 20, 2012.

Wildflowers mixed in...

Cashmere Sage blooming.

The hops vine made it over the arbor! Woo hoo! The vine on the right, is a Silver Lace Vine, and it grows at amazing speed. It's reached the top of the deer fence with no where to go! Both of these vines die back to the ground every winter and start from scratch in the spring.

Black-eyed Susan's I planted early June. Hopefully, they'll spread!

Lots blooming now!

The delphiniums continue to bloom...been over a month!
You can't tell in this picture, but these delphiniums are over 6 feet tall! Yes...taller than me!

Planted Baby's Breath from seed and it is starting to bloom.

Helitrope, Veronica, Coneflowers, Lovage

Colorado Columbines

The hops is blooming.

The hops is making it's way up this arbor too!

Hibiscus...in a pot. Can't grow as a perennial at this elevation.

Where is the family??

The outdoor dining room!
Hammock Haven in the background.

Our outdoor room!
I still have to stain it...sigh.

Crystal Peak!

Sunflowers are blooming! They usually don't bloom until mid or late August. Must be because it's been such a hot summer.
I didn't plant any sunflowers this year because I thought the new fence would block the sun too much...but these grew from seed that was dropped from last years flowers.
I must plant more next year!

Yeah!! The Fireweed actually grew from seed!
(Fireweed is the purple on far left)

California Poppies...grew from seed

Poppy Mallow...finally blooming!

View off the back porch tonight just after it rained.
The clouds were amazing. You can't even tell there is a mountain range hiding behind them.
Yes! It rained!!!
I am so looking forward to a walk through the garden in the morning with my coffee and getting my shoes wet!

Living here makes the hassle of our life style so worth it.
Lucky us!

Some of the projects from this summer:

Log bench from dead trees from Grand Lake

A coffee table for the gathering place.
I used left over wood from the kitchen floor.
I also got to use some power tools and
 my birthday electric nail gun!

Made the little box on the table too.

Not shown: electric votive candles that go on the wine bottle candle holder. We sure can't have any open flames! Still in a fire ban. I spent today giving them a rustic finish from modge podge and instant coffee crystals...

Turned out okay!
Something to hang on the bedroom door when we have family or friends over.
Cut the wood cookies with Jim's table saw (love his power tools!)..then sanded, varnished (hopefully the bark will stay on), primed and used chalkboard paint.

Chalkboard paint...so many uses!

Moved the old door that use to be on the porch to the side of the garage and hung the equipment parts on it. I figured I'd never find a welder to turn them into flowers.

Like it...but...something is either not right, or it's missing.
A work in progress.
Hung the Sunrise Commissary sign here (for now)...
Maybe I can get Jimmy's girlfriend to do some art on the saw blade?

Instead of a guest book, I've been asking friends and family to sign the paddle. Hopefully, I'll have to get a second paddle soon!

These were fun to make!

Bottle tree...I made two

I finally have a screen door...and the best part?
I made sure the spring was tight enough to make it bang!
Worst part..it isn't long enough. Sigh.

Another sign with the help of my great friend Diana!

It was a project figuring this out. The absolute worst part was digging the post holes.

Sign for the corner garden in honor of Koby.

Okay...so I made the gate in October...just had to feature it again. I have three arbors now...
Everything should be in 3's.

A fond farewell to those wonderful vacation days...

I absolutely love to kayak

A float fly-fishing trip

By afternoon it had become a float R&R trip!
Note: You'll see that is a ROOT beer in the cup holder

Jim's efforts pay off!
Those Rainbow Trout are gorgeous fish.

Jim also knows how to hog the porch swing -
a new addition (the swing and baby Hadley Grace)
